Create Your Own Island Name
Didn’t find “the one” in our generator? No problem! With our quick and easy techniques, you can create your own cool island name ideas within minutes.
But before you begin, you need to think about the type of island you are creating. Is it a spooky island? A cute, fun-type island? Or are you just looking for a realistic-sounding name for your fake island? Once you know the type of island, you can move on to using either of the two techniques mentioned below.
Adjective and Noun Technique
Our first technique for naming islands is the adjective and noun technique. This technique involves combining adjectives and nouns to generate an island name. The nice thing about this technique is that it can fully describe your island in as few as two words. Your readers will know exactly what to expect when they hear these island names!
Here are the steps for creating island names with this technique:
- Pick an Adjective: Make a list of adjectives that describe your island. For example, Creepy, Old, Ancient, Little, Deathly, and so on.
- Pick a Noun: Next, create a list of relevant nouns for your island. For example, Lotus, Crab, Banana, Tiger, Ship, and so on.
- Choose a “Land” Word: Make a list of island synonyms, such as island, isles, reef, shores, land, tropic, bay, etc.
- Combine the Words: Now, all you do is combine the adjective, noun, and island synonyms to get your island name ideas. Here are some of ours: Creepy Toad Isles, Ancient Lotus Tropic, and Deathly Bones Bay.
The “Name” Technique
Another technique you could try is taking a person’s name and then just adding ‘Island’ to the end of it. This works well if you’re trying to create a mysterious island, as the name of the island doesn’t give away too much to the reader.
Here are the steps to our second technique:
- Pick a Name: Take an exotic-sounding name of a person. Our fantasy name generator may come in handy here! Here are some examples: Kai, Hasumi, Shizumi, Holokai, Nerina, Poseidon, or Dodola.
- Add your Suffix: Now, make a list of island synonyms, such as island, isles, reef, shores, land, tropic, bay, etc.
- Combine the Words: Finally, combine the person’s name with the island synonyms to get your unique island name. Here are our examples: Hasumi Bay, Nerina Retreat, Poseidon Shores, and Kai Rock.

Animal Crossing Island Names
When naming an island in Animal Crossing, there are some rules to follow:
- Character Limit: You have exactly 10 spaces. If you want “Blueberry Bay,” you’ll have to settle for “Blueberry” or “Bluey Bay.”
- The “Island” Suffix: In the English version of the game, the game doesn’t automatically add the word “Island” to your name in menus, but villagers will often say “the island of [Name]” or “[Name] Island” in dialogue.
- Special Characters: You can use punctuation like exclamation points, question marks, and accented letters (like é), which are great for names like Café Isle.
- Two-Word Names: You are free to use spaces or hyphens for two-word names.
